Another great story to tell you about.

Another great story to tell you about.

I’m writing to share our good news.
We have started a weekend girls’ club at Kijiji Mission for teenage girls within our surrounding community. A few of the girls that we currently sponsor in high school with school fees, a school lunch, free uniforms, books, and school supplies now come to our facility on Saturdays to study beginning computer training under Daisy, a former student who has stayed on with us to train our own students in our computer room every afternoon. The girls are very eager to be given this rare opportunity. They also share a hearty meal with the rest of our students and take home a weekly food hamper containing enough food to get their family through the week. It’s common for their single mothers not to have enough food to give their children one meal daily. The family will go to bed without having eaten that day. We’re currently sponsoring fifteen students. Unfortunately, many live too far from our project to take advantage of this great opportunity, while the older students attend school on Saturdays.

Our goal is to give these girls the self-esteem to believe they can achieve their dreams through hard work and perseverance.

On the left is Yvonne, one of our sponsored students when we first met her in 2023, and on the right is Yvonne today. She is a bright, happy teenage girl doing well in her studies, knowing she now has a future and people who believe in her.
Antoinette’s report on Yvonne when we first met her in 2023.
Yvonne is in form 1 at Rhino Secondary at Mzee Wa Nyama, on the outskirts of Nakuru City. She performs above average and can do better if her school fees are paid in full. She has been in and out of school due to school fees all of her life. Her fee per term is Kshs 4500=. A well-wisher paid her first-term fees this year (2023) and bought her this uniform. However, she hasn’t paid the total fees for the remaining terms. Her elder brother is in Form 3 at Lanet Secondary. However, he is currently at home due to school fees. The other two sisters are in primary school.
Her father was a casual laborer doing building jobs; he had a stroke in 2020. As a result of the stroke, he cannot walk without the help of the crutches. Her mother is a vegetable vendor on the roadside, the family’s breadwinner, and the money she raises from her sales is hardly enough for them. The landlady offered them a two-roomed house at Murugi to live in without paying rent until her husband recovers. When we visited, we found the dad receiving therapy from a well-wisher who is a medic. They hardly had anything to eat and depended on well-wishers within their community.
CURRENTLY, THESE FIVE GIRLS NEED
MONTHLY SPONSORS.
