Responding to the Aid Freeze: Supporting Communities in Kenya.

Many of you have reached out with questions about the recent freeze on U.S. foreign aid and whether it affects Springs of Hope Foundation community projects. Fortunately, thanks to the generosity and commitment of supporters like you, our programs have never relied on the U.S. or Kenyan governments for funding. Instead, your contributions make our work possible, allowing us to maintain independence and flexibility to respond to community needs. Moreover, we are enormously grateful for the trust and support you provide, which enables us to continue making a meaningful difference.

The freeze on U.S. foreign aid profoundly impacts the communities we serve. In Kenya, 80% of the population was living in poverty even before U.S. assistance was cut. Many international and national aid organizations have had to suspend operations. About 40,000 Kenyans working for USAID-linked agencies have been laid off. This has made an already dire situation worse for millions of people. Springs of Hope Foundation is working with our in-country partners to address the shortfall. We are focused on meeting the most pressing unmet community needs.
We are receiving more requests for food hampers from community groups we have supported for years. In fact, for most groups, the number of hampers requested has at least doubled. Additionally, requests for how often distributions occur have also increased. Thanks to your generous support, we have been able to respond to every request. So far, no community leader has been turned away. Furthermore, we continue helping groups for people with disabilities, HIV/AIDS organizations, elderly communities, and single mothers. We also support communities affected by floods, drought, and other disasters. Ultimately, your contributions make it possible to meet these growing needs with care and consistency.

Our work in these regions is more crucial now than ever. Thanks to your support, Springs of Hope Foundation can continue assisting women and children in underserved communities in Kenya.
