Our students recently set out for a unique Kentex Uniforms factory visit, a hands-on learning experience at one of Kenya’s leading school uniform manufacturers. The visit broadened their perspective, showing them that production extends far beyond the small sewing machines they use in training.
When the students entered the factory, the steady hum of machines and the sight of fabric transforming immediately captured their attention. They watched giant cutting machines slice through stacks of cloth with precision, shaping pieces for shirts, skirts, and trousers. As a result, they gained valuable insight into the efficiency of large-scale operations.
Afterward, the group moved to the embroidery section. Multi-head machines stitched logos with remarkable speed and accuracy, each running up to 12 needles at once. In this space, the students learned about embroidery digitizing, the process of converting digital logos into stitch-ready files. For many, it felt like watching creativity leap straight from a computer screen into thread and fabric, replicating perfectly across dozens of uniforms.
Meanwhile, the sweater section fascinated them just as much. Automated knitting machines worked quietly in the background, producing the sturdy cardigans worn by countless schoolchildren across Kenya. Here, once again, the girls saw how consistency and quality come from precise processes. These observations further reinforced what they had been learning in tailoring: precision and quality matter everywhere.
Beyond the machines and techniques, the Kentex team challenged the students to think bigger. They told them that tailoring is not just about stitching clothes—it can also open doors to entrepreneurship. In fact, by purchasing uniforms at discounted rates directly from the factory, our students could resell them in their communities. Through this approach, they combine tailoring skills with business knowledge, building sustainable livelihoods for the future.
Finally, the day ended with lively discussions, thoughtful questions, and plenty of smiles. The Kentex Uniforms factory visit gave the girls a chance to see large-scale production in action. Most importantly, they returned with a clearer vision of how their tailoring skills can translate into independence, entrepreneurship, and opportunity. The visit was not only educational but also deeply inspiring—proof that every stitch can shape a brighter tomorrow.
