It’s hard to believe this is happening after just going through 4 years of the the most devastating draught in 40 years.

Last year, I wrote about the worst drought in East Africa in forty years. Crops were failing AGAIN, the cost of food had doubled AGAIN, for the fourth year in a row, and Kenya’s amazing wildlife was dying due to a lack of vegetation and water as river beds dried up. Many were suffering from severe malnutrition as their livestock perished and food staples were not available. At the time, the Springs of Hope Foundation team did everything within our ability to get much-needed food and supplies to the residents of the drought-stricken areas.
Yet here we are in 2024, faced with the worst flooding in many years. Crops are destroyed, and again, precious livestock is being swept away in the torrential currents as dams burst their banks, destroying villages and killing many.

Springs of Hope Foundation’s Kijiji Mission project continues to distribute our food hampers to the most valuable within our community. Last week, we visited Mzee Wanyama, Nakuru, and distributed food hampers on Thursday. Most of the people living there are unemployed, disabled, elderly, or young single mums. The group eagerly waited for us and was grateful for our visit. We were accompanied by Antony Kamau and Dorcas Gathere, the area’s local representatives, who gathered the recipients. To disabled children, adults, and young mothers, we distributed washable, reusable diapers sewn by our students. We also gave the young girls and women washable, reusable sanitary kits also sewn by our students, and, of course, everyone received greatly appreciated food hampers. It was a great privilege to share what we had during this Easter season.
We were also fortunate to have a nurse accompany us on this particular food distribution, who gave the chidren their required vaccinations and general wellness checkups.
