Supporting Vulnerable Families in Kiratina

Kiratina is one of the oldest estates in Nakuru. Yet, despite its age and rich history, it remains deeply underserved. The settlement lies just across the highway from our center, only minutes away, but the difference is striking. As you enter, unpaved feeder roads stretch ahead, showing a sharp contrast to the urban development seen in neighboring areas.

Despite its historical significance, Kiratina has been overlooked for decades. The estate still lacks basic infrastructure that other communities take for granted. For example, there are no public schools or health facilities within the area. As a result, children must travel long distances every day to access education or medical care.

To attend school, many children walk several kilometres to places like Madaraka, Hyrax Hill, or Naka Primary. This journey is not just long, it is dangerous. They must cross the busy Nakuru–Nairobi highway, weaving through fast-moving traffic, just to reach their classrooms. Every trip to school becomes a risk, and this constant danger highlights the deep neglect Kiratina’s residents face.

Because of this ongoing hardship, Springs of Hope Foundation has committed to supporting the people of Kiratina in practical and compassionate ways. We routinely visit the elderly, people living with disabilities, and single mothers in the area. During these visits, we provide washable diapers, reusable sanitary kits, and much-needed food hampers. These simple items bring relief, comfort, and dignity to families who are too often forgotten.

Over time, our presence has become a source of stability for many families. They know we will keep showing up. They know someone cares. A child’s shy smile when receiving a sanitary kit speaks volumes. So does the gratitude in a mother’s eyes when she receives a food hamper to feed her children.

In addition, our regular visits help us stay connected to the community’s changing needs. We can respond quickly when hardships grow or disasters strike. Meanwhile, their resilience continues to inspire us.

Our work in Kiratina is far from finished. With your continued support, we will keep walking alongside this community meeting urgent needs now and working toward a future where every child can learn safely, and every family can live with dignity.
